Playing Around With Books

Come learn some new creative and interactive approaches to engaging children and their caregivers! You will learn fun emerging literacy activities which will reach children at a social and emotional level, allowing them to connect more fully with the characters and events in the story, as well as with the program presenter. The workshop is presented by Regina Wade, MLS, an Early Childhood Consultant, Mother Goose on the Loose Trainer, and Music Together™ Instructor; and Betsy Diamant-Cohen, MLS, DCD, the Executive Director of Mother Goose on the Loose, “Your Baby Needs Music” Certified Instructor, and Children’s Programming Specialist at Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, MD.

Training Workshop

at the Indiana Convention Center

An all-day workshop with Betsy and Regina, sponsored by The Children & Young Peoples Division of the Indiana Library Federation (ILF), with information about baby brain development and school readiness, as well as a hands-on Mother Goose on the Loose session. Following the session, workshop participants are given a programming packet and walked through the sections and components of the program. Towards the end of the day, participants have the opportunity to choose their own nursery rhymes and make flannel board characters to match. Each participant has the opportunity to experience leading one part of a Mother Goose on the Loose session. By the end of this workshop, participants should feel comfortable planning and running programs of their own.


$50 Member - $70 Non-Member

Scheduling Your Own Workshop

Mother Goose on the Loose training workshops are provided by Betsy Diamant-Cohen and Regina Wade. These include:

  • An all-day workshop with information about baby brain development and school readiness, as well as a hands-on Mother Goose on the Loose session. Following the session, workshop participants are given a programming packet and walked through the sections and components of the program. Towards the end of the day, participants have the opportunity to choose their own nursery rhymes and make flannel board characters to match. Each participant has the opportunity to experience leading one part of a Mother Goose on the Loose session. By the end of this workshop, participants should feel comfortable planning and running programs of their own.
  • A two hour workshop given by Betsy Diamant-Cohen which is a basic demonstration of a Mother Goose on the Loose session with a few explanatory comments and a quick review of the programming packet.
  • A half day workshop with all of the above information but without the hands-on craft activities.
  • A two day workshop that includes Betsy and/or Regina combing the full-day training session with actualy Mother Goose on the Loose sessions given to the public. Workshop participants can observe for themselves how the program works smoothly with real children who have never attended a Mother Goose on the Loose program before.

Other Workshops include:

  • Playing Around With Books - a full day workshop with Regina and Betsy
  • Preschool Storytime - a half day workshop with Betsy
