The
History of Mother Goose on the Loose:
MGOL in
Israel |
The new and revised nursery rhyme program was offered for
parents with children from birth to age three at the Israel
Museum in Jerusalem, Israel. Each week, in the library
of the Ruth
Youth Wing, parents and children would participate in Mother
Goose on the Loose sessions highlighting children's
book illustrations and English language rhymes. Through songs,
fingerplays, puppets, and activities using musical instruments,
English language skills were developed. This popular program
drew a large audience of "regulars" as well as visiting
tourists. In
a country with many conflicts, parents and children who were
Jewish, Christian, and Moslem would come together once a week
to sing "The Eency Weency Spider" and pull Humpty
Dumpty off of his wall to the applause of the group. Regular
weekly participants enjoyed sharing joyful sessions with tourists
who were looking for child-friendly activities.
Mother
Goose on the Loose sessions were also offered
at local nursery schools and public libraries. |
